A kwaito Experience In London(UK)

Some say it’s the return of kwaito but many do not tolerate this and argue kwaito never left in the first place. Whichever way one looks at it, Big Nuz has not only brought about more interest in kwaito but has also started a kwaito revolution.

The names Mandla Maphumulo, Sibusiso Khomo and Mzi Tshomela donot mean much to many a kwaito fan, but mention Big Nuz and you have got their attention.

Mampintsha also know as Jojo( Mandla),R.Mashesha(Sibusiso) and Danger(Mzi) are straight from Umlazi, where the car number plates are NUZ. I wouldn’t know where the big come from but one thing for sure is that these guys are out growing that prefix.

The Trio’s latest album “2nd Round Knock Out” has won multiple Awards including the Best Kwaito Album at last Year’s Metro Fm Awards. Being from Durban and with their latest album having a heavy house beat mixed over classic kwaito; many defined their music as DKM (Durban Kwaito Music).

“It’s kwaito, but it’s not DKM, it IKE, which means…”.
Big Nuz

But who is the authoritative definer of a music genre? What Big Nuz have delivered is more than music, it’s an experience, an experience which has been enjoyed by an international audience but that is still kwaito. As Big Nuz put it “It’s kwaito, but it’s not DKM, it IKE, which means International Kwaito Experience”.

Whatever one would like to call it, kwaito, DKM,IKE,Electro pop or house, listening to the 2nd Round Knockout is a great musical experience that has not yet been matched by any other. Some of the hit songs from the album includes “Ubala”, “Ugesi”, and “Uyoyisholo wena”.

The IKE concept is very ambitious and will be seriously tested when the Trio Tour London and Leicester (UK), on the 10th and 11th of next month (April) respectively. The heavily anticipated gig , titled “Jozi In You “, has been organised by Diaspora Productions and is known for putting Durban’s hottest ,best artists against Joburg’s.

Last Year’s event saw Dj Zinhle, Dj Cndo and Vetkuk Mahoota perform at Twillight, a venue that turned out to be too small for such a big event. This year’s Jozi In You is a continuation and improvement on last year’s event. It has attracted a lot of attention and is setting a trend of bringing UK fans the freshest and most talented Djs and artist from eMzansi(South Africa). Other artist performing on the night are Vetkuk Mahoota, Bojo Mujo and the hottest DJ around , Dj Clock.

Hosted by Vetkuk Mahoota, Big Nuz will be bringing to life that elusive kwaito experience as they perform live at Stratford Rex (London) and Starlite (Leiceister).

To Celebrate Big Nuz, Bojo Mujo and Dj Clock’s First UK Tour, Diaspora Productions are giving away T-Shirts and Albums. Visit www.kwaito.co.uk/joziinyou for more information
