By Lebohang Mpede , 13 May 2008Kwaito musician Mgarimbe, real name Nkosinathi Mfeka, has been arrested for child abuse by police in Honeydew, north of Johannesburg, reports South African media.
Mgarimbe was arrested on Sunday and will appear in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court today on a charge of physical abuse.
West Rand police spokesman Captain S’phiwe Ndlovu said yesterday “Just a mere look at the child tells a story. You can tell that the child was physically abused”
Mgarimbe and his girlfriend Thedi Dlodlo are accused of beating and starving the little girl.
A neighbour said the girl had bruises on her face, neck and legs as a result of regular beatings.
But the artist, whose songs mostly contain crude lyrics, denied the allegations.
Yesterday his girlfriend continued to deny that they had abused the child.
The kwaito artist’s girl friend,Dlodlo, said she did not know who the child’s mother was or where she was.Asked why the girl had bruises, she said: “She is sickly.”
Police spokesman, Ndlovu said the case was still being investigated. He added that the child had been taken to a place of safety in Krugersdorp.
Mgarimbe, who became famous for the Sister Bethina song, has also been accused of stealing a song in the near past.
