Global hip hop superstar, Bow Wow, is heading for the Young Gifted and African studio on Monday 7 December to co-host a very special edition of the show.

Bow Wow will be joined live in the studio by Channel O’s The Twinz for the once-off show that will put the hugely popular star in the interview hot-seat for the full one-hour of the show, from 18:00 to 19:00.

“YGA officially came to an end on Thursday 26 November when Lungsta, DJ Waxxy and Chuma delivered a brilliant closing show jam packed with music and celebrity gossip,” says Yolisa Phahle, M-Net’s Channel Director: Special Interests (SA). “But it’s not often we get the chance to make use of the immense talents of someone like Bow Wow so we are celebrating that with a very special edition of YGA.”

Of course, no YGA (or, in fact, Channel O) show would be complete without some scorching sounds – and on Monday 7 December these will come courtesy of DJ Waxxy who will also be in the studio to keep the music bumping.

“If there’s anything you want out of life, you’ve got to claim it.”

Bow Wow is going to be in South Africa to perform at the Big Brother 4 Revolution Grand Finale, airing on DSTV channel 198 on Sunday 6 December. After he blows the Big Brother Africa audience away, Bow Wow will be grilled by The Twinz on everything from being discovered by Snoop Dogg at the age of five to the dynamics of taking his teenage career into adulthood.

As viewers will hear during YGA’s Monday 7 December special one-hour edition, it’s been an amazing ride for Bow Wow since being featured on Snoop’s groundbreaking Doggystyle album. After being teamed a few years later with Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow exploded onto the music scene in 2000 with Beware of Dog, the first in a string of platinum and gold albums (he’s sold more than 10 million albums to date) that spawned six No. 1 singles and such platinum songs as “Let Me Hold You,” “Like You,” Shortie Like Mine” and “Outta My System.” He is also the Youngest Solo Rapper To Ever Hit No. 1, as recognised by the Guinness Book Of World Records.

Over the years, Bow Wow has been the first rap artist of his generation to become a legitimate entertainer, excelling as rapper, stage performer and actor (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift [2006], Roll Bounce [2005], Johnson Family Vacation [2004] and Like Mike [2002; his first movie, it grossed $35 million its first week in theaters], as well as television series “Smallville” [2006] and a recurring role on HBO’s “Entourage” [2008-09], as well as a prominent role in the film Hurricane Season with Forest Whitaker and Lil Wayne.

With his latest album, New Jack City II, Bow Wow takes a quantum leap toward being viewed as rap’s best artist. “I am going to be the hottest rapper in 2009,” says Bow Wow, who in December 2008 was named by People Magazine one of the Most Beautiful People in the World. “My momma always told me, ‘If there’s anything you want out of life, you’ve got to claim it.’ So, I’m claiming it.”

And now Channel O and YGA are claiming Bow Wow for a very special interview – so tune in on Monday 7 December from 18:00 to 19:00.

  • Channel O is available across the african continent on DStv channel 320.
