Channel O Music Video Awards
The nominees for the 2009 Channel O Music Video Awards were announced at a press conference at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg on Tuesday 14 July.

Africa’s Young and Gifted artists are coming out to shine in the 2009 Channel O Music Awards, brought to you by Amarula Cream. The annual awards event has already stamped its mark on the continent as the most Afro-centric of them all, and this year adding to that is the re-introduction of the category – Most Gifted Afro-Pop Video.

Like Most Gifted Kwaito, this category celebrates a uniquely African music style that reveals just why the continent is considered such a hotbed of musical innovation.

“We are the biggest supporters of African music and wanted to extend that by re-introducing this category,” comments Yolisa Phahle, Channel Director: Special Interests at M-Net. “Afro-Pop is a brilliant example of a uniquely African music style that easily finds audiences around the continent and we hope that the platform it gets in the awards will bring more fans to the genre.”

As in previous years, winners in the Channel O Music Video Awards, brought to you by Amarula Cream, are chosen by the public who will be able to make their voices heard via SMS or online or through their mobile phones.

The 2009 Channel O Music Video Awards, brought to you by Amarula Cream, take place on Thursday 29 October at Carnival City in Gauteng.
