Deep Level’s commitment to delivering hip-hop in fresh, exciting ways reaches fruition with the duo’s brand new video, “We Run The City”.
Set to debut on Channel O on Friday 7 May at 17:30 – but first on www.channelo.tv at 12:00 – the video steps firmly away from the “hot girls shaking booty” clichés that have come to dominate the local hip hop music video scene and delivers a riveting concept that’s likely to earn Deep Level more awards!
Inspired by films like Sin City and driven by the idea of the underworld, “We Run The City” casts Gaoza and Lebza as capable of using their underworld powers to clean up and influence the current state of music.
Action-packed and fast-paced, Deep Level’s latest was shot by Green Haus Films, whose vision was to “create a fresh story, with intriguing characters, allowing for tasty images. “We want the audience to not simply view but to absorb and contemplate the film,” states the Green Haus crew. Cape Town-based but made up of Lesotho, Germany, British and Dutch nationals, Green Haus Films has recently shot a music video for Hip Hop legends DoItAll (former member of platinum selling Lords Of The Underground) and producer extraordinaire Pete Rock (who has produced for Nas, Notorious B.I.G, Heavy D, currently working on the Kanye West album and many more).
The video for “We Run The City” was shot on location in Cape Town.
It is certain to add power to Deep Level’s standing as one of hip hop’s finest, able to reach a broad and diverse audience – something that was also confirmed when DJ Nutty Nys’s remix of Deep Level’s huge hit, “K’zogo K’zogozo (Summer Anthem)” was named Remix Of The Year at the recent 16th Annual MTN South African Music Awards.
