Dj Terance at it Again!

The fickle music industry has yet to break the new Soul Candi DJ, Terance.
Compared to others who’ve claimed the hot spot for years, this guy breathes fresh air to this growing genre.

This lad from Kagiso, a West Rand township, has every right to be placed on that ‘hot spot’ pedestal, as he is exactly that and more. For those unacquainted with who I’m raving about, listen to his recent CD and tell me if you’re not a convert yet.

I was first introduced to his exhilarating sounds on the Soul Candi Sessions compilation in 2006. Terance was supposed to release his own album, but was asked to contribute his skills on the three-disc offering from Soul Candi. Being fairly new to the game, he couldn’t miss the opportunity of this magnitude. What a calculated move; this afforded the masses and radio to get a feel of what’s to come from this innovative DJ.

His eclectic house mix catered for everyone and it wasn’t surprising that it became a 2006 festive staple. My mother demanded a copy for Christmas, which I subsequently ‘borrowed’ indefinitely. Thanks to my pod for saving this rare find from indefinite scratches.

He claims the first DJ he saw spinning the wheels was DJ Ganyani, a Soweto DJ who has inspired many like him. He and a friend then formed a group called DJ inc, playing at parties, weddings and communal gatherings. The writing was on the wall, as he pursued a music career, aided by a diploma in Sound Engineering and work at a Record Store. His love and ear for good house music was shaped and continued to grow, as well as his own music collection.

“Creativity is key”, his life mantra is clearly evident in his first debut mix, Music Box Volume 1, released in April 2007. This time around someone nobly liberated the overplayed disc from my CD player.

Music Box Volume 2 boasts the same creative formula that has won Terance mass appeal. His honed skills and matured mixing ability is laced all over the CD. Which is highly impressive and stands its own in this competitive game. I’ll have to be more careful with this one, I’m certain it will be a must-have come December.

If you manage to escape from the rock you’ve been living under all this time, make your way to Music Box’s CD launch at Zamezi Lounge on Thursday, 20 March. The next day is a public holiday, so you can gyrated and shake as much as your music possessed body allows. Better still; get yourself a copy of this vocal house music bliss, out in stores now.

Note: I am not affiliated or paid by Terance to express the facts above; everything written is purely for your benefit!

Turn it up, NOW!
