Dj Zinhle The Church Lady
By Quibell Ramantswana , 10 Dec 2008The Mzansi show catches up with DJ Zinhle and reveals her thoughts on the market for female DJs in South Africa and what is next for the Church Lady.
It’s a bitterly cold Saturday night in Leicester and DJ Zinhle is not
feeling well but she is in a jubilant mood and excited about her
imminent gig.
“I wanna drop a nice album that people are going to appreciate”
-Dj Zinhle
As one of the top female DJ`s in South Africa Zinhle`s had a hectic
year, having recently opened an all-female DJ school in addition to her
YFM show, club gigs, part time fashion course and the new TV show (due to be screened shortly),you could forgive her for not releasing her
eagerly awaited new album sooner.
In fact Zinhle has been postponing the album for two years. The Church lady laughed when we asked her about the new album. “We finally decided we gonna drop it next Easter. We weren`t gonna drop it [before] because everyone was expecting it, I wanna drop a nice album that people are going to appreciate”.
“…woman need to stop being so shy. Most of them can play but the confidence to be on…”
-Dj Zinhle
As one of the leading female DJs in South Africa we asked her why she
thinks there are few females in the industry.”The South African female
market is there and people are gonna see the group of female DJs
representing South Africa. The opportunities are there it’s just that
woman need to stop being so shy. Most of them can play but the confidence to be on the stage is still lacking”.
The recent rumours surrounding her future on the Jika Majika show has
been under scrutiny in recent weeks after unconfirmed reports that she is to exit the show so is there any truth to the rumour? “Nothing has been confirmed as yet so we`ll have to wait and see, she revealed.
What ever the outcomes we can be sure with the release of her new
forthcoming album this is not the last we will see of the church lady
star!
Interviews are done live during The Mzansi Show which is aired on futureradio every Saturday between 17:00hrs and 19:00hrs.
