Kliff O’Day The Ceo!
By Quibell Ramantswana , 07 May 2009Kliff Oday; the Seshego born has just released his debut single. It’s not however his first experience as an artist having previously been a member of the Hip Hop group ‘Dope Squad’.
A chance meeting with House DJ ‘Steavyboy’ brought about his introduction and his subsequent love affair with House music.
Kliff aka Buthiza spent three years with the legendary Ray Phiri accumulating the necessary song writing and production skills; his time there lead to him being signed by DJ Sdunkero Sounds back in 2006. (Incidentally it was his collaboration with DJ Sdunkero on the track ‘Buthiza’ that earned him his nickname Buthiza).
Three years later having produced many a tracks for the label, Kliff decided to bring out his own album ‘CEO’. “This is a breakthrough… My single has just got released on Monday and has been playing on YFM”.
“You need to come up with a new identity”
Mphumalanga Province was the talk of 2007 after DJ Sdunkero scooped ‘Song of the Year’ at the Sama Award’s with the ‘Maputo song’. “It was actually a big success for us in Mpumalanga” Kliff explains.
South African music has grown incredibly. People nowadays listen to all sorts of music genres which was not the case in South Africa before.
“You need to come up with a new identity… You don’t have to say I’m following Hip Hop [or] House music. People don’t do that anymore; people just want good music”.
Kliff Oday’s debut album ‘CEO’ features DJ Sdunkero, SteavyBoy, Kaspero and Khosi. It is available in stores now.
