Lira The All My Love Hit Star!

By Quibell Ramantswana , 04 Feb 2009

In the beginning of 2000 a new star was unveiled by 999 records. Lira has now grown into an international star. Having won awards and multiple award nominations including for her latest album- ‘Soul in mind’.

“This album is a bit of something but also very soulful at the same time. It’s a very beautiful written album. I worked with exactly the same team that I’ve worked with on ‘Feel Good’ because the team worked so well together. I feel very comfortable working with them”.

Being regarded as someone who has turned into a woman with a world class talent it seems Lira is beginning to realize her childhood dream of becoming like Whitney Houston, one of the best singers in the world. “For me she was a measuring point, she never takes her clothes off, she got the credibility on just being a great vocalist and that is what I aspire to become”.

“…they even like the Zulu songs!”

Her talent speaks for itself, Lira is one of the few South African artists that managed to break the international market. With her latest album being released in Italy, what made the Italians to go Suid de Afrika…?

“It came about because Sony BMG was the middle man and the Italians picked it up from them. They just loved the material and wanted to release it. They didn’t change the cover [of the album] or anything. They just loved it for what it was… They even like the Zulu songs!”.

With international stardom, numerous awards and nominations it’s easy to forget there was a time before Lira was a star so how did she build herself up to where she is today? “I actually did a lot of the work myself but I’ve got a fabulous team behind me. Everyone is doing their part but it didn’t quite start on like that”.

And what about the bad publicity that comes with it? “They always do that, for example, I’ve been pregnant for the past four years but obviously I haven’t been. Generally it isn’t bad. I don’t really have bad publicity at all”.

Lira is currently awaiting UK promoters so she can perform in the UK.
