Mandoza theft Charges Withdrawn
By guestwritter , 13 Dec 2007Charges of theft against kwaito star Mandoza were withdrawn yesterday in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
Mandoza, 29, whose real name is Mduduzi Tshabalala, and his wife, Mpho Tshabalala, 27, were accused of committing theft under false pretences.
The celebrity couple handed themselves over to police two months ago, following claims by a clothing retailer that they had refused to settle a R19000 debt with her.
Ntombi Moyo, who sells clothing from her home in Woodmead, Johannesburg, alleged that Mandoza did not make good on his promises to pay for clothes taken from her on July 6.
The case against them was withdrawn after their lawyer made representations to a senior prosecutor.
The lawyer would not discuss the case outside the court, nor would Mandoza and his wife.
The prominent couple sat quietly on a bench outside the court until the case was called.
Clad in a white zip-up top, blue jeans and fashionable black shoes, Mandoza hid behind dark sunglasses as he rested his head on the wall while onlookers stared.
Several young girls kept a respectable distance from him but could not contain their delight at seeing the star in person.
