Professor Scoops Best Male Album

Professor at 12th Annual Metro FM Awards
The 12th annual Metro FM Awards where held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International convention centre and where broad cast live for the first time.

The awards re-affirmed kwaito’s position as Mzansi favourite music as Professor’s Orientation kwaito album beat off stiff competition in the form of Donald’s Train of Love, Khuli Chana’s lost time, Kabomo’s Memory Remains and Zakwe’s self-titled album, to win the Best Male Album Award.

This year’s kwaito category was very competitive and had no obvious winner. The nominees where well established artists with very good albums, namely Brickz(Ruffcast), Tokollo(Heist), L’vovo(The Headmaster) , Professor(Orientation) and Kabelo(Immortal Vol.2). The Orientation come out tops and won the “Best Kwaito Album” making it two awards for Professor.

“…the first African to receive a Noble Peace Price, I guess that give his dedication a different perspective”

Professor’s record label, Kalawe Jazmee, dominated the awards which saw artists such as DJ Pepsi, Oskido, and Donald walking away with accolades. Kawala’s significant influence and dominion was obvious as most celebs attended their after party rather than the official one.

A nice touch was Arthur Mafokate winning the Vodacom Best Digital Download for Hlokoloza, and we hope to see more hits from 999 to slightly break the Kalawa Jazmee and Afrotainment local dominance.

Talking of Afrotainment , there had a few nominations but unfortunately could not collect any awards on their home ground.

Brenda Fassie’s hit producer Chicco Twala was awarded “The Life Time Achievement Award” which he dedicated to the ANC. As random as this dedication may sound, one has to remember that the venue where these awards were held was named after Albert Luthuli the ANC President who was the first African to receive a Noble Peace Price, I guess that give his dedication a different perspective.
