Revolution are Married to the Studio

By Quibell Ramantswana , 30 Dec 2008

The Mothiba Brothers open up to the Mzansi show talking about their new album, “The book of Revolution”, their new DVD and tell us the secret of their success and their views on South African Music.

“The Book of Revolution” is the ninth album for them, titled so because 95% of the songs on the album comes from what they call “the book of Revolution” - which is a collection of the songs they have written throughout their careers.

“…Revolution have become a culture so you can’t just dump it like that…”

Having just released their album, the Revolution brothers are already in the studio preparing for the Revolution 10 album. It suddenly becomes apparent why they feel like they are married to the studio, in fact they spend 90% of their time in there. “Revolution 10 is gonna be the biggest album, we are going to celebrate 10 years as a brand, 10 years as a label and 10 years as a Revolution”.

10 years of a successful career in music, surely that deserves a break?

“When people go on holiday, we don’t. Revolution has become a culture so you can’t just dump it like that; people want music all the time”.

It takes something very special to last almost a decade in the music business, but Revolution has achieved that something very special consistently. Something of perfectionists, these guys have been dropping album after album for the past 9 years so what’s behind Revolution’s success.

“…your first biggest hit can be your worst nightmare”.

“Fans are more involved most of the time we don’t do guess work and think everything is gonna work. We are sure its gonna work because that’s what the fans want in the album. We try not to repeat what we have already done in the previous year, your first biggest hit can be your worst nightmare”.

As top South African DJs and Producers they also gave us their review of South African music in general. “South African music is on top of its game whichever way you look at it from Hip Hop to which ever genre. We really stepped up our game”
The Revolution DVD is now out.

The Mzansi Show is aired on futureradio every Saturday between 17:00hrs and 19:00hrs.
