Waar Was Jy Entertainment, a newly formed live show business and entertainment enterprise, will host a kwaito festival on Saturday October 30.

The event billed for Fairgrounds will attract kwaito heavyweights including legend Ishmael, who together with Skeem are known for the hit song Waar Was Jy, which the event and company is named after.

According to Rocky Gofamodimo, co-founder and festival organiser, Botswana has experienced a huge downfall and depreciation of kwaito music and said it was therefore essential to remind all and sundry of the importance and value of kwaito and the impact it has in people’ lives, especially those who grew up at its advent and during its reigning era.

He said the plan was to revive the nostalgic story of kwaito, keep it alive and introduce it to new audiences and the new generation who have missed out on its melody.

…as to prompt upcoming artists to get back to the roots of the famous kwaito music groove.”

He explained that Waar Was Jy Entertainment’s mission was to offer a wide range of entertainment, marketing, event management and performance platforms throughout the country for major national and international clients.

He said on Friday, starting from 5:30hrs, they will have a Waar Was Jy Kwaito Happy Hour at the Pavillion Restaurant in Fairgrounds and tickets for the show are currently on sale at Liquorama

He explained that a lot of things will be taken into consideration to try and make this event exciting and different from the previous ones.

“This initiative will be achieved to make a positive impact in the current music industry so as to prompt upcoming artists to get back to the roots of the famous kwaito music groove.”

He said they intend to hold the event annually. International kwaito superstars who will be performing include among others Arthur Mafokate, Thebe, Kabelo of the It’s my house hit fame and Doc Shebeleza.
