R&B Superstart Banky W
With Dineo Moeketsi and Banky W now confirmed to host the 2011 Channel O Music Video awards, brought to you in association with Hyundai, the event has all the makings of a superb night’s entertainment.

The South African O-Access presenter and multi award-winning Nigerian artist are set to bring glamour and huge amounts of swagger to the event that is being broadcast LIVE from the Sandton Convention Center on Friday 11 November.

Since beating stiff competition to take the role of O-Access presenter last year, Dineo’s star has risen – with speed!

In 2010 this multi-talented presenter and performing artist earned her first supporting role in Soul City 10, as well as cameo appearances in the popular comedy City Ses’la and the soon to be released Winnie Mandela movie starring Terrence Howard and Jennifer Hudson.

“Channel O has been one of the greatest platforms for African artists over the years”

The National School of the Arts graduate is also a musician, MC and voice-over artist who is eyeing the big-time with her broad slate of talent and instant television appeal. When she is not shooting O-Access viewers can also get to see the lovely Dineo presenting on sister channel Vuzu’s celebrity show V. Entertainment. For Dineo the chance to host Africa’s most prestigious awards is a real honour.

“Of all the peaks during my time at Channel O, I never imagined this would come my way. I am honoured, humbled, pleasantly surprised and ever so grateful to be hosting this year’s Channel O Music Video Awards. I am even more excited to have such a brilliant African artist like Banky W as my co-host. Words cannot begin to describe how thankful I am for Channel O. I’m well beyond excited and I get tiny butterflies just thinking about it. The 11th of November can’t come any sooner…LET THE GAMES BEGIN!” says Dineo.

Nigeria’s Banky W is a singer, songwriter, producer, entertainer, MC, entrepreneur and philanthropist whose appearance this year on L-Tido’s smash hit “It Aint My Fault” has significantly broadened his appeal across the African continent.

From his first record, ‘Undeniable: The EP’ to 2005’s R&B and soul-heavy ‘Back in the Buildin’, and 2009’s ‘The W Experience’, Banky W has proved his musical genius. He also co-owns one of Africa’s fastest-rising record labels, Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E), overseeing the careers of young and talented Nigerian artists, WizKid and Skales.

In addition, Banky W is a published writer (http://bankyw.blogspot.com) and his belief in the importance of philanthropic work has seen him launch the “I AM CAPABLE” scholarship fund, which provides tuition, and accommodation at private universities for youth who are in need and meet the grade requirements. Banky W is also part of the “LightupNigeria” Project, which is focused on achieving constant electrical power supply in Nigeria, as well as various other charitable society building and empowering projects.

Banky W is immensely proud to be hosting this year’s Channel O Music Video awards, brought to you in association with Hyundai.

“It is truly a great honour for me to be chosen as this year’s host. Channel O has been one of the greatest platforms for African artists over the years, and the award show is always a spectacular event; the show has a history of raising the bar and setting the standard for events on our continent. I’m so proud to be a part of it. I’m very excited about the opportunity, and I hope and pray that I do a great job as anchor. I plan on working with the team to ensure that this year’s show is the biggest and best celebration of African music that we’ve had till date… Let’s go!! #LagosPartyStateofMind,” says an elated Banky W.

Hot off the heels of Pro’s well received O-Session – which was a multiple trend on social mediums like Twitter - June sees Channel O celebrate Kwaito legends TKZEE.

We take a trip down memory lane to where it all began and among the tracks Kabelo, Tokollo and Zwai are set to perform come Thursday 2 June at 19:00 are “Take it Easy”, which was their first song; “Masimbela”, inspired by the East West conflict in US rap – like the feud that existed between Tokollo and Mdu as well as “Palafala”, the title track of their first album and first major hit.

Also, look out for surprise performances from the TKZEE family including hits like the party track “Fiasco” and “Izinja Zam”. We leap eight years later to chart-toppers like “Sdudla” and “Viva La Pantsula” taken off their comeback album titled Coming Home, which is modern and futuristic but still with enough GUZ flavour to keep it unmistakably TKZEE.

In this O-Session the trio also pays a heartfelt tribute to those that have made an impact in their lives and career but have since passed on, including Dr Mageu, Thuli Thilis and Moses Molelekwa.

The O-Sessions gave 80 loyal Channel O viewers as well as ultimate TKZEE fans the chance to be part of an exclusive concert as the group voyage through their life and music career.

Still to come on The O-Sessions are Jozi (July) and Slikour (August).
Don’t miss TKZEE on Channel O’s LIVE O-Sessions on Thursday 2 June at 19:00 as well as the FEATURING TKZEE special on Friday 3 June at 20:30.
* TKZEE - is made up of three school friends – rappers Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala and Kabelo “Bouga Luv” Mabalane as well as classically trained musician Zwai Bala.

    O-Sessions TKZee repeat dates:

  • 3 June (16h00 – 17h00)
  • 5 June (12h00 – 13h00)
  • 8 June (12h00 – 13h00)
  • 18 June (19h00 – 20h00)
