Black Coffee at Scala was the most dominant Southern African event this past weekend ,in London.
The gig hosted by Kronologik lived up to all the hype that had built up around it.
I was mainly looking out for the Southern African Djs and the mixing done by Skyflexx (Kronologik), Obie Tryce, Dj Selekta(slickmanagement) and Kinetic P (Slickmanagement) was so good ,I thought they would steal the show.
“We danced all night, literally.”
Then the legendary Black Coffee took the decks. Expectations where very high, I mean Black Coffee has won multiple awards and is recognised internationally. People from as far as main land Europe where among the massive crowd which had gathered to listen to Black Coffee. Well he exceeded those very high expectations.
The minute Black Coffee started his set the crowd responded energetically. It was an instinctive response to good music.
“We listened and danced to the most exclusive house music as…”
The dance floor remained packed till the end of his set. We listened and danced to the most exclusive house music as Blackcoffee mixed good songs and made them sound like the best. It was a truly exclusive set as every tune was mixed to suit the crowd. We actually got more than the promised 3hour set from Black Coffee, but even that was not enough for the crowd, which wanted more.
To satisfy this need , for more house music, Levi Live (Joburg projects) took over and keep the crowd happy. We danced all night, literally.
A lot of credit has to be given to Mario,Kronologik and Scala as the Sound quality, the venue and the performance from all the Djs was far more than one would expect for £12.
Black Coffee with the assistance of Kronologik has definitely took mzansi house to an international audience.
This was an event not to be missed by any house music fan.
We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
