Twenty-five years ago House music was born – and this December VUZU is bringing the originator of this global music phenomenon to South Africa for a once-off exclusive live show!

This mind-blowing event takes place at the Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein on Saturday 5 December and just 500 tickets will be sold at the door, giving South African House music fans the chance to experience the one and only Jesse Saunders in person. Those in the know will be instantly familiar with the name Jesse Saunders: Saunders wrote, produced, performed, mixed and released the first documented House record, “ON & ON,” on his upstart label Jes Say Records out of Chicago in 1984. That record went on to spark a worldwide phenomenon and propelled Saunders to fame on the back of hits like “Love Can’t Turn Around”, recognised internationally as the world’s most covered and largest selling house single – and a song that topped the charts in more than 20 countries and secured the first major record deal for a House Music artist/producer DJ (with Geffen/Warner Bros. Records) in 1986.

“…what excites me most right now is how so many of its most exciting releases come from Africa”

Now, 25 years after Saunders’ one record changed dance music forever comes VUZU’s presentation of the 25th Anniversary of House World Tour with the man himself, who will be spinning a two hour set and a live video jockumentary from the heart of the Alexander Theatre. Supporting Saunders will be the who’s who of South African House music pioneers: Tim White, Christos, Vinny Da Vinci, VUZU residents Strat3gy & Pierre Pressure and Special guest, KZN’s Andy X. Completing the picture will be the TOUCH TV VJs.

Says Tim White of House Afrika Records, “This music has been the soundtrack to my life for twenty five years and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate it that with people who love it, and an artist whose actions have had such a deep impact on all of us.” Adds House Afrika’s Vinny Da Vinci, “We all grew up listening to this guy, so it really is special to be able to celebrate 25 incredible years of house music with him.”

VUZU’s presentation of the 25th Anniversary of House World Tour with Jesse Saunders is also a chance to acknowledge the role South Africa has played in both spreading the House music word and in its creation.

“House music has come a long way in twenty five years, but what excites me most right now is how so many of its most exciting releases come from Africa,” comments Christos Katsaitis of Katsaitis Music. “This event is designed to credit our South African pioneers, namely Tim, Vinny and Christos, for the role they have played in building the movement Jesse set in motion all those years ago, and to highlight our local house heritage while adding the VUZU production verve into the mix,” is how Glenn van Loggerenberg a.k.a. DJ Strat3gy, (VUZU DJ and Producer) puts it.

With Jesse Saunders’ hugely acclaimed DJ set at the heart of the action, and the skills of South Africa’s best and most innovative House Music DJs on offer, fans will not want to miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
