Nhlanhla Nciza Living The Dream

Nhlanhla Nciza (Mafikizolo) reveals all to the Mzansi show duo Joe and Q on the future of Mafikizolo, her solo career and launching her own clothing range.

There has been uncertainty over the future of Mafikizolo since the duo went solo a year ago. Many bands before, (notably TKZee and Trompies) have pledged to stay together whilst pursuing solo careers only to never regroup. Could Nhlanhla see this happening for Mafikizolo?

“As a person you want to grow, you want to see if you can stand on your own, you want to experience new things. Not that we’re breaking up but it was all about growing as an individual and it was something we always talked about. So for now we’re concentrating on our solo projects. Theo will be doing his second album and then we’ll get back together as Mafikizolo”.

“…There have been hardships but it’s also been a good journey…”
– Nhlanhla Nciza

So any other solo projects on the horizon, acting, television…? “[Actually] we once did a special show on Women’s Day.. They asked
various women from the Music Industry to come and present the show
for the day. I was so nervous, I was shaking and panicking. I decided presenting doesn’t matter whether it’s on Radio or TV it’s just not for me. The only time that I feel comfortable talking to people is through my music when I am performing on stage but that’s about it”.

After the tragic loss of Tebogo Madingoane Mafikizolo could be excused for not continuing but having stood strong they have maintained their title as one of the most successful established acts in South African Music.

“For me it has been all about growth. There has been hardships but it’s also been a good journey. I’ve grown into this woman who’s a mother, business woman [and] who is also a Solo artist…so it’s been quite a journey”.

“…Let me share my lifestyle with woman…”
– Nhlanhla Nciza

Indeed Nhlanhla Nciza has branched out, having launched her own
fashion label in addition to her solo career. “I was very much inspired by women because every time when I went out on stage I would make sure that I looked good. There is so much more in music, it doesn’t end at the studio. It’s also about how I look when I see the public. So I decided you know what, let me share my lifestyle with women. They love the way I dress and the only way I could share that with them was to launch my own
clothing range”.

A successful music career, business woman and mother, you could very well say she’s living the dream!

Nhlanhla Nciza’s new album is out in July.
